Since most of you haven't been around long enough to know the entire history of The Dreadnaughts I thought I'd fill everyone in to let you guys know how much of a priveledge it really is to be a part of this guild.
A long time ago when World of Warcraft was relatively new and guilds were just starting to conquer Molten Core, John (Heracio) and I started playing on a friend's account. He had a hunter that was a member of the end game guild The Regulators so we got a taste of the comradery necessary in an end game guild. Shortly after witnessing what the game had to offer we went out to Target and picked up a copy of the game. We got home and John immediately created a character named Heracio.
Heracio leveled up at a slow pace because we didn't have much time to devote to the game and we didn't really know what we were doing. John hopped from guild to guild trying to find one that harbored the kind of light-hearted friendship and teamwork that he had come to expect from guilds. After going through several guilds he realized he'd have to create his own guild to get the kind of teamwork he wanted.
Around the tender level of 18 Heracio set out in Westfall to collect charter signatures. The first charter signer was Silverhammer, a guild member who was loyal for years of Dreadnaught existence. The guild's initial goal was to start small but become an end game force to be reckoned with. The guilds we had in mind as examples were PALS FOR LIFE, In Excelsis, and The Regulators. The guild grew and grew and as we got higher in level we realized that we didn't want to be like those guilds. The Dreadnaughts were different. We enjoyed every minute online and never felt like we were just putting up with each other for gear. Everyone in the guild loved everyone else and it was a utopian guild environment.
While all of this was going on I had purchased my own account and was leveling up my little Edmonde in my spare time. When I got to about level 42 Heracio was about level 52 or so and things started to go a little haywire.
We had an officer in our guild named Melletar. He was an awesome guy. He was fun to play with, nice and helpful on our ventrilo server, everything you could want in an officer. Along came Freekstile. Freekstile was a spastic guy who wanted desperately to have an impact in the guild but was way too immature to be an officer. Freekstile became friends with Melletar and convinced him that Melletar should be the guild master since he was level 60 and Heracio wasn't. Apparently Melletar became power hungry and convinced the other officers in the guild while Heracio wasn't online that we needed a level 60 guild master as well. Heracio has always been a generous person and thought of the guild as a democracy so he decided that if that's what the guild wanted to do he had no choice but to follow along. He gave up his guild master title to Melletar.
(I'm just gonna go ahead and add in right here that I was against the decision and my exact words to the officers were "If Melletar becomes the guild master I'm leaving and the guild will fail.")
Melletar and Freekstile had all kinds of plans for "revolutionizing" the guild. They decided that all of our friends that were under level 50 weren't worthy to be in guild chat with them so they created a new guild for the 50+ members called "Redemption". Guild master-dom of The Dreadnaughts was passed on to me but I didn't want any more to do with it so Heracio and I started a few characters on other servers for a while. Redemption lasted about... a month. The officers fought amongst one another and the guild collapsed with everyone mad at everyone else while John and I were having fun on other servers.
We played on other servers for a long time, probably around 4 or 5 months. We returned to find The Dreadnaughts in about the shape we expected them to be... deserted. We deleted the inactive profiles and decided for a fresh start. I gave the title of guild master back to Heracio and we began recruiting again. The guild grew much faster this time because we were higher leveled and we were instantly making great friends of the caliber that we used to have within the guild.
Now we're about at the point the guild was at before the mutiny. We have a strong member base of friendly and mature members just on the virge of end game. Due to real life responsibilities Heracio is taking a time-out from World of Warcraft but he gave me the guild master title for the time being so we'll continue to expand the guild the way Heracio envisioned.
