Here's the ranking system, most of the credit goes to D (Katelyn) who devised a lot of the specifications for the ranks. If you think you fit the description of a rank listed but you haven't been promoted yet send an IN-GAME MAIL to Edmonde (include your forum and ventrilo names so I can double-check your activity) and I'll take care of it.
Acolyte - n00b
Cleric - Has been a member for at least 2 weeks and is active in guild chat and guild runs.
Zealot - Has been a member for at least a month. Has made at least 10 contributive posts on forum and has run an instance with a Council Member.
Deacon - Is active on message board. Is at least level 40, mature, helpful, respectful, and shows an obvious loyalty to the guild.
Bishop - Knowledgeable about their class, the game, and raiding. Has Ventrilo and actively participates in guild activities such as instances and raids.
Baron - Officer. Is the help of the Council Members in running the raids, recruiting, activity in guild chat, dealing with problems that arise, making decisions, and getting word out about the message board and Ventrilo. To become a Baron you have to first attain the rank of Bishop. Barons are handpicked by the Council and aren't very common so don't expect to become one without putting in the effort.
Council Members - Basically second in command when I'm offline. Oversees the officers, making sure they're fulfilling their duties. It takes a long time and a ton of devotion to become a Council Member. To be graced by the presence of a Council Member is an honor in itself so all I can say is good luck becoming one.
Overlord - 'Nuff said.
So in essence it's very easy to gain rank. Just have fun in guild activities, post on the forum every once in a while, and log into Ventrilo while you're online. Again, just send an IN-GAME MAIL to Edmonde if you think you deserve a promotion (include your forum and ventrilo names so I can double-check your activity).
